Discover the warmth of this charming barrier island.
Amelia Island
Located just 30 minutes north of Jacksonville, lies the charming barrier island of Amelia Island. As you approach the island from Heckscher Drive, you’re greeted with canopied live oaks, covered with swaying Spanish moss, passing by pristine golf courses and quaint local shops. “The Island”, as we call it, is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, with the St. Mary’s River to the north.
Amelia Island is a part of the Sea Chain Islands that stretches along the east coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida; it is the southernmost of the Sea Islands, and the northernmost of the barrier Islands on Florida's Atlantic coast. Lying in Nassau County, Florida, it is 13 miles (21 km) long and approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) wide at its widest point. The communities of Fernandina Beach, Amelia City and American Beach are located on the island.
Spend the day at a remote beach, cruise the back waters of the tranquil river, stroll through the charming downtown strip, or hit the links on one of Amelia Island’s many world-class golf courses. There is something for everyone on this hidden gem.
